Getting A Stronger Charge From Your Laptop Battery

A laptop computer is a very versatile accessory which can be used for a variety of activities such as for work, school, surfing the web or playing games. It can also be used in a variety of different locations, such as at home, on the road, in a caf or in the office.

The most important accessory for your laptop is your laptop charger. This is a vital component of whether the portability of your laptop works for you or not as the battery life of a laptop is seldom longer than just a few hours. Should you not have a battery charger to hand, you will not be able to power your laptop back up. It is a dual use accessory as it can also be used as an alternative power source.

In order to run the laptop for a long time, timely recharge is essential. A breakdown of laptop in the midst of a class, project presentation or meeting is really bad. If the work is not saved properly, it will be a dreadful situation. At the same time, if a charger is permanently connected to a laptop for convenience, it will destroy the battery capacity.

It can be tempting to just keep the laptop plugged in all the time and use it like that. But that can be detrimental because using it like this over the long term can ensure that the battery does not hold a charge very long at all. The battery can get hot and it an ruin its life.

An efficient solution to preserve your laptop's battery life is to ensure that your laptop charger is only plugged in while the battery is charging and as soon as it is finished, you remove the charger. This is easy to do by keeping an eye on the icon on your desktop which shows the current status of your battery's charge. When you have the laptop charger plugged in to your computer, the icon will change to show that you are charging your battery by running off the charger.

It is advisable to keep the charger plugged in until the icon shows that the laptop is fully charged. This practice will help to stretch or lengthen the battery life. This can be done in the case of nickel based laptop batteries. Once it is fully charged, we can disconnect the charger and continue using the laptop. After completely consuming the battery power, we can plug it back for recharging.

If it is a lithium ion battery, it is especially important that you do not let it go completely low in its charge. You can plug this type of battery in at almost any time and you will not harm it. This is the kind newer computers have, and you shouldn't let these run out.

If you have this kind of battery and you are on the road a lot, then charge it whenever you get the chance. That way you won't have to deal with a decreasing battery charge. If you find you do not have your laptop charger, dim the screen or let it go into hibernation status when you are not going to be using it.
